I’m customizing an install of the Mantis bugtracker for my contract job. We want to modify it to authenticate against our own user database. Fortunately, the Mantis code is pretty well modularized and abstracted, so it shouldn’t be too hard. I’m also going to try to integrate a way to submit new issues by email. My employer has already suggested that when I get that working, I could submit the modifications back to the Mantis project. It’s nice to have a boss who “gets” Open Source.
Meanwhile, Jamie and Mary are in the family room watching Esther Williams in Skirts Ahoy!. Susan is slicing up some banana bread in the kitchen. I’m having a brunch of freshly cut pineapple and cantelope (and a small dollop of whipped cream), along with a cup of hot coffee. Later today, we’ll take the kids to the mall.
Life is good.
I know this is not the best comment to make. But I have not had banana bread for ages… and your post has convinced me its a good time to try it again.
Praise You
If you can LGPL the ‘submit via email’ piece, I’d love to use it in some of my stuff (people have asked for this feature to be added to Tasks Pro). I’ve got a fairly detailed outline of what I need to do to support this and I’ve started creating an IMAP and POP e-mail client in PHP. Maybe we could discuss your plans for your project and see where it matches (and not) with what I had in mind. Maybe we can lighten each other’s load a bit.
Hey, I used to *love* Esther Williams films. Haven’t seen one for years. Typically, here in the UK, they were the sort of thing that BBC2 used to put on when the snooker got rained off…
PS. I am having a weird problem with ecto and wordpress (that’s how I got here) – it posts, but takes about 4 hours (literally) to do so. Shows up in my admin area but then is nowhere on the site proper. Odd. Then suddenly miraculously appears. Any ideas? (only if not too much trouble – WP support seems to be down at present; in fact, whole WP site is).
Keep eating healthy and don’t spend all your money at the mall
Thanks for your nice comments about Mantis. I’m glad you are finding it easy to customize it. There has been several extensions that gets Mantis to authenticate against several providers.
As for the importing from email feature. You may want to check the available implementation for that. It is not yet part of the distribution but we are working on integrating it in the near future.

You can also develop your own .NET or Java application that reads emails via POP3 and pump them into Mantis using MantisConnect which is a webservice that provides Java, .NET and Cocoa client libraries (you can also do your own client in your favorite language:
