My brother-in-law, Bob, has been keeping a blog on wordpress.com for a while now called Arcane Code. He mostly writes about software development using Microsoft tools, because that’s what he does for a living. He’s also had some interesting posts lately about installing various flavors of Linux under Virtual PC, and a long series digging deeply into SQL Server. But one of his most recent posts caught my eye and I wanted to share it: Arcane Thoughts: Benefits of Blogging.
In this article, Bob briefly outlines six benefits that he gets from writing on his blog: Meet and Greet, Self Documenting, Self Promotion, Mentoring, Education, and Giving Back. Even though I don’t make time to post something new every day (I wish I could), I have some of the same thoughts and feelings about why I keep a blog. Does blogging to other websites some times stop your traffic to your website or redirect it . I have adds up and I pay a service to get me traffic but after I blog my traffic seems to disappear either that or my interenet provider is cutting off the statics because I am getting to much traffic . I am a writer who sells a book on line that doesn’t sell according to my publisher but I have dropped twice down to 100,000 . I don’t know what I am doing how do i get adds on word bnlog like you have ? I have adds on my site

Your brother in law makes some interesting points. My favorite thing about blogging is the way it stretches my thought processes and forces me to have the discipline to consistently post.
I have to say that blogging has changed my life. I appreciate wordpress and everything it has to offer in the blogging community because it allows for simple people like myself to have a voice and be heard. What a great invention. What are your plan with your blog being that it has the best technorati ranking?
There is one important thing missing in your brother’s list: Blogging helps building social communities. Thanks to wordpress and other engines it is so easy today to set up a Blog in the net where different people from different locations can meet and share thoughts.
Think thats a benefit far beyond that from selfish-like portrayal blogs.

I think I may start to get into blogging, although I haven’t decided on a good topic/genre… it seems to be a great way to meet talented, experienced people with similar interests and get some great feedback and knowledge from veterans. I am a firm believer in opening up as many doors as possible for yourself and your business, and I think blogging is a logical next step for my growth. Thanks so much for the article!
