Plugin Pages

WordPress Wednesday

I have finally gotten around to adding proper pages on this site to provide information about my WordPress plugins. It’s still a work-in-progress, but it’s at least at a point that they are useful. When I get a chance, I’ll document the methods I used to automate things. But basically, I’ve created a couple of page templates, and I’m using the Plugin Info plugin to automagically bring in plugin metadata from the wordpress.org plugin repository.

The main Plugins page lists each plugin, with the plugin name and version, number of downloads so far, and an excerpt of the plugin description. On each plugin detail page, you get the full description, changelog, download link, and other stats, such as the minimum and last-tested WordPress versions.

Very nice. I like the plugin-info plugin, I think I’ll start using it myself.

Yup, that plugin info plugin is FREAKIN’ handy!!! Thanks for writing it :) I’ll install it shortly as that sort of functionality is going to save me a few headaches with incorrect information spotted throughout my site.

I’ve actually written a short AJAX script to load the help pages from my site into my plugins admin panel. I was originally just copy and pasting it, but I kept forgetting and my users started getting frustrated at my not understanding why they were using incorrect installation procedures all the time. So a combination of that, plus your plugin info plugin should mean that all of my various bits of data are all stored nicely in single places :)

I didn’t write the Plugin Info plugin. Credit for that goes to John Blackbourn. Credit where credit is due!

Same like Otto I am going to try to give it a go with the plugin-info plugin to automatically bring their metadata from the wordpress repository area. Ta Dougal.

Looking forward to your plugins Dougal. Thanks for the explanation of your methods and introducing me to plugin-info. It’s great to get advice from people who know what they’re doing. Keep up the great work.
