Wanted: Cross-platform mobile shopping list app

Okay Lazyweb, help me find what I’m looking for. I want a mobile shopping/todo list app that my wife and I can both use to keep shared lists. I’ve got an iPhone, Susan has a Blackberry Curve — it should be easy to use on either of those devices. And of course, we’d want to be able to edit our lists via our desktop web browsers, as well.

It should:

  • support multiple lists
  • support sharing lists between multiple people
  • make it super easy to check off items
  • be able to sync the latest list updates from anywhere
  • be easy to use on iPhone, Blackberry, or any web browser
  • be inexpensive

It doesn’t have to have (but could):

  • support store-specific lists
  • be aware of what aisle items are on
  • support recipe ingredient lists or meal planning functions
  • support item categories within lists

I looked at a few list applications for the iPhone in the App Store, and I did some searches on the general intarwebs, but the apps I found all fell down in some way. [...]

Firefox 3

Late last night, I installed Firefox 3 Beta 2. I’ve been running it all day, opening and closing tabs throughout, with a peak of around 45 tabs open, and an average somewhere around 25-30.

I don’t know what they’ve done to improve the memory handling (it’s currently using 394M virtual, 161M resident, 19M shared), but the responsiveness has been awesome. In Firefox 2, my machine would have been thrashing like a dying wildebeest, slogging down the performance of every other app on the machine. [...]

glTail: Realtime Logfile Visualization

glTail Screenshot

This screenshot shows how glTail visualizes a comment spam attack in my configuration.

A few days ago, in my usual daily link browsing, I ran across a link to something called “glTail“, which was described as “realtime logfile visualization”. I’m often keeping an eye on my server logs to catch unusual activity, so I thought I’d give it it a look. [...]

ViaList

A couple of years ago, when we moved to the Atlanta area, I was working as a contractor doing some web programming on a project that I couldn’t say much about, because I had signed an NDA. But now I can talk, because the product is officially released (actually, I suppose I could have talked about it back when it was in beta). That product is ViaList.

ViaList is software that helps your club, group, committee, or family stay organized and up-to-date. [...]

The State of FeedLounge

Alex has posted a moderately detailed article explaining The State of FeedLounge. For any newcomers who don’t know what FeedLounge is, it’s a web based feed aggregator, not unlike BlogLines. But FeedLounge is a next-generation web service that looks and acts more like a desktop application than a web site.

I’m one of the lucky alpha testers who have had access for the last six months. [...]

Feedlounge web-based aggregator

FeedLounge Logo

Alex King and Scott Sanders have announced FeedLounge, a “state of the art web-based feed reader.” Alex invited me to be an alpha tester, so I spent some time kicking it around yesterday. Color me impressed.

Keeping in mind that this is alpha software, I’ll grant you that I found a couple of suggestions to make. [...]

Calendar Software Recommendation?

A friend of mine is looking for a web-based events calendar. He’s got a pretty big list of needs and wants, but here are some of the main ones:

  • Ability to integrate into existing web site (look & feel, events lists on various pages, maybe unified logins, too).
  • Single events, recurring events and floating events (same weekend each year type) plus multiple categories
  • Separate yearly, monthly, biweekly, weekly, and daily calendar views for each calendar
  • Unlimited web calendars on web site for different departments, communities, geographic region, etc.
  • Downloadable calendar data available, methods to include: Outlook, PDA, iCal and vCal
  • Create RSS feeds of upcoming events

I’m afraid that my calendar-fu is pretty weak right now, so I don’t have any recommendations for him. [...]
