Updates on my weight loss plan

Ow. Ow. Ow.

I’ve spent years at a desk job and very little in the way of extra-curricular activity, so I’m not in the best shape of my life. In fact, I’m in pretty poor shape. I’m grateful that my doctor was diplomatic about it when I had my 40-year-old physical last week. But I’ve been making somewhat of an effort to get myself into better general health over the last couple of years. If nothing else, I eat healthier foods now, generally speaking.

Thus, a few weeks ago I signed up to play on our church softball team, figuring that it would be a good way to commit myself to getting some exercise. [...]

Weight Goal

My weight on the scale this morning was 252 pounds, and my trend weight is less than half a pound higher than that. That puts me at right around 20 pounds lost since early September. I’ve had to add two notches to my belt, as well. If we hadn’t eaten out at restaurants so much this past weekend, I might have dipped down below 250. I expect to do that by next week, though.

Weight Goal

My weight on the scale today was 255 pounds, which is only 1 pound less than last Monday. But a few days ago, I was down at 252.5. My trend weight is 254.2, which is about 2 pounds lower than a week ago. I think I’ve said this before, but I really should have made Friday my weekly weight tracking day instead of Monday. My weight almost always spikes over the weekend.

Weight Goal

I weighed in today at 256 pounds, which is 4.5 pounds lighter than last Monday, but 2 pounds higher than my low point of 254. It’s really amazing how much one weekend of carefree enjoyment of food can affect your body, and how long it takes to recover from it. But, I’m still down more than 15 pounds from when I started, and I can feel the difference in my clothes. I’m back to wearing some of my older jeans, and even those feel loose in the waist. I also need to either punch a new notch in my belt or buy a new one.

Granted, I haven’t been strictly following our eating plan over all of last week, either. [...]

Weekend fun

Things I consumed this weekend that aren’t on my diet plan:

  • Beer
  • Hot dogs
  • Hamburgers*
  • Potato salad
  • Baked beans
  • Sauerkraut
  • Diet soda (ha!)
  • Sausage bread
  • Pumpkin bread
  • Chips
  • Dip
  • Chocolate cake

Weight Goal

I got busy and forgot to post last Monday. But that’s okay because I didn’t have much progress to report. We were having a hectic period, and wound up eating out a lot. Then Susan put together the smoker she got last Christmas, and we’ve smoked some chicken breasts and a turkey since then (and when I say “we” did it, I really mean that Susan did it). Mmm… Home smoked poultry rocks!

Anyhow, my current weight is 257 pounds, with the trend weight just a half pound above that. So over the past four weeks I’ve lost pretty close to 15 pounds. We finally got our treadmill moved into the garage yesterday, so that will let us get in some measured exercise, rain or shine. [...]

Weight Goal

This morning’s scale weight was 261.0, and my trend weight is just a smidgen above that. We fell off of our eating plan a bit over the weekend. We hadn’t had time to cook much this week, we were getting tired of the leftovers, and we were just generally stressed. So, my weight fluctuated a bit. If you go by the trend calculation, I’m down about 4 pounds from last week, and 11 pounds overall (two weeks so far).

We’re getting back on track now. Susan got a smoker for Christmas last year. We’re going to put it together and try our hand at smoking some chicken and turkey. [...]

Weight Goal

The scale read 262.5 pounds this morning, which is 9.5 pounds lighter than one week ago. Though, I tend to trust my “trend weight” calculation a little more. It’s currently at 265.22, which is still almost 7 pounds down. So far, I’d have to say that our new eating plan is doing pretty good. We haven’t had a chance to start the exercise plan yet. I’m hoping that we can get our treadmill moved from the basement to the garage this afternoon. Especially since Ivan is heading this way, and we’re likely to be stuck indoors much of the week (just like a couple of weeks ago when Frances blew through).

Re-resolved

At the beginning of this year, I had resolved to lose some weight. My goal had been to lose one pound per week, though I really only managed about half of that, because I never started exercising as I had intended. By the beginning of May, I had lost right around 10 pounds. Then, in the shuffle of relocating to Georgia, I found myself unable to keep up with my weight loss program. In recent weighings, I find that I’ve gained back all the pounds that I had lost previously.

Now that we’re finally more-or-less settled, Susan and I both wanted to pay more attention to our health. [...]

Weight Goal

My weight stayed pretty steady most of last week, with a final bit of up-and-down over the weekend. When all was said and done, I had only lost 0.1 lbs.

Current weight: 261.9 lbs.
