Pirates

Yarrr! It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Once again, we have arrived on Talk Like a Pirate Day. I had been hoping that I would be able to find time to upgrade my Text Filter Suite plugin for WordPress (which includes my Pirate filter for posts and comments), but I’ve just been too busy. [...]

Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Ahoy! It’s time fer Talk Like a Pirate Day again! Don’t forget t’ install me Text Filter Suite Plugin if ye want t’ get yer WordPress blog into th’ action.

Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Ahoy, me maties! It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day once again, and as I’m sure you’ve noticed, I’ve spruced my site up for the occassion. Around my office, I’ve been hearing a lot of “yarrr!” and “avast!”, as many folks have been getting into the buccaneering mood. Or maybe it’s just because they’re grumpy — it’s hard to tell on some days.

In any case, I hope you’re enjoying this fine holiday. . [...]

Piratify Your Blog!

There’s only one week left until Talk Like a Pirate Day! If you haven’t already downloaded my Text Filter Suite, which contains the awesome tfs-pirate filter, then you’d better hop to it! What’s that? You want to know what it does? It turns your blog into pirate-speak on Talk Like a Pirate Day! Well, it does some other stuff, too, but we’re mostly concerned with the piratey bits here.

For example, if you typed this:

I was driving to my girlfriend’s house the other day, and some guy cut me off and almost ran my car off the road! I hate when people do stupid things like that. [...]

Talk Like a Pirate (and TFS updates)

Talk Like a Pirate Day is next Monday (September 19), less than a week away. Dust off your eyepatch, dig up that gold hoop earring, and practice growling, “walk the plank!” And while you’re at it, don’t forget to make sure that you have my Text Filter Suite plugin installed on your WordPress blog, and activate your Pirate filter!

Speaking of which, if you have an old version of the filters, you should download the new version. The tfs-core.php file is now version 1.1, is compatible with WordPress 1.5, and has been renamed to zzz-tfs-core.php (this forces it to load after the other filters, so it will be able to detect their functions correctly). [...]

Yarrr!

Don’t forget: Talk Like a Pirate Day is only about six weeks away. I’m going to get a customized golf shirt made for the occassion. It’s pretty convenient to have in-laws who own an embroidery business.

I’ve picked out the main pirate design that I want on the shirt. I just need to decide what text I want on it. . [...]

Doh! I forgot to announce the fix for that! I discovered the problem on Friday, but I didn’t have time to write it up, and then later I forgot about it.

At the end of tfs-pirate.php, change the final if statement. [...]

Talk Like a Pirate Weekend

Welcome t’ Talk Like a Pirate Weekend! All posts and comments on this site will be in pirate-speak until th’ end o’ TLaPW on September 20. Don’t forget t’ talk like a pirate while ye’re at work, at th’ grocery store, at th’ movies, or wherever ye may be!

Back to being a land lubber

All the piratey goings-on yesterday were great fun. Judging by how slow the Talk Like a Pirate Day web site was running yesterday, it must have been a great success all around. My whole family, from my kids all the way up to my in-laws, spoke like pirates. And our teenaged niece told us that a bunch of the kids at her school were into it.

In case you missed the fun here on geek ramblings, I have a way you can view the site in pirate mode. I have some other versions available, as well: Jive, Swedish Chef, Kraut, and Fudd.

I still have to make some adjustments to the filters, as they can break some of the HTML. [...]
