AT&T Chairman Loses Brain, Misunderstands Internet
The chairman of AT&T has a tunnel-vision problem:
Ed Whitacre, AT&T’s chairman and chief executive, warned on Monday that internet content providers that wanted to use broadband networks to deliver high-quality services such as movie downloads to their customers would have to pay for the service or face the prospect that new investment in high speed networks “will dry up.â€

Soooo, let’s break down how dumb these statements are.
First of all, the content providers are paying for service already, in the same way that the end-users do. [...]
Breaking the silence
Between projects at work (rolling out the largest indoor WiFi network in the world at a certain international airport near Atlanta) and projects at home (building more IKEA furniture — bed, dresser, chest, entertainment center, end tables, ottomans; doing what I can to help Suze prepare for Thanksgiving), I haven’t had much time for posting lately. But I’m making a minute to come up for a quick breath and note some of the things that have caught my attention lately:
- WordPress 2.0 beta (what, you thought it was version 1.6? Ha!)
- Feedlounge alpha 5 (faster, more new features)
- Feedlounge switches from MySQL to PostgreSQL

Google Blog Search
I may be a little late coming to this party, but Google has introduced Google Blog Search, which limits searches to just blogs (well, in theory, anyhow). The most interesting thing about this, to me, is that GBS provides the search results for your terms as Atom and RSS feeds.
It seems that Google is leveraging blog feeds to get structured data, and monitoring ping sites for timely updates. [...]
Katrina
I have a lot of family in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. Fortunately, my closest relatives — my mother, father, step-father, grandmother, plus some aunts, uncles, and first cousins — were not in the most heavily affected areas. Granny was visiting one of my aunts in New York. Her flight home was canceled twice, so she returned on Wednesday instead of Monday, but at least she has a home to return to. My mom rode things out at her house in Fairhope, with not much worse than power outages and downed tree limbs. [...]

There’s no telling how this post is going to affect my Google ads or my status in certain website blocking systems, but here we go…
We’ve all seen television commercials for Viagra, Cialis and other “male performance enhancement” medications. And depending on your particular sensitivities, you might be embarassed, amused, or intrigued by these things. I probably fall in the middle group. What I love about these advertisements are the legal disclaimers.
