New Server

I’ve completed my migration to the new server, as mentioned in my previous post. I’m going to give it a little time for any problems to shake out before I do any heavy testing, but please let me know if you notice anything that doesn’t work correctly.

Update, Dec 2: I’m trying again, after some server configuration help from Frederick Townes (W3 Total Cache author). So far, testing with ApacheBench has looked good.

Macbook + Coffee = Bad

Everybody knows that you shouldn’t keep beverages too close to the computer, right? The reason is because eventually, your toddler is going to run up to give you a big hug before she leaves for daycare, and is going to bump your leg. Your leg, in turn, is going to bump the TV tray where you set your coffee cup. The cup is going to tip over and spill several ounces of coffee directly onto the keyboard of your Macbook. VPS Recommendations?

I’m looking for a Virtual Private Server host. The server I’m currently on is woefully underpowered for the handful of sites I running (on the plus side, it’s been free), and it’s high time that I moved my stuff to a box that’s up to the task.

Ideally, I’d like the following features:

  • Virtual Private Server with at least 1GB of RAM (preferably with root access within my instance).
  • SSH shell access.
  • Decent monthly bandwidth allotment (at least 250GB/month).
  • Plenty of disk space (25GB would be be plenty, but I can live with less).
  • Hosting of multiple web/email domains.
  • PHP5 and MySQL 5.
  • Ability to configure many email alias fowards within each domain.
  • Procmail for mail filtering.
  • DNS hosting, preferably with the ability to directly edit my own zone files, but I’ll live with a web interface if I have to.

Those are listed roughly in order of importance. [...]
