FancyBox Gallery demo fixed

Yesterday, I discovered that the demo at the bottom of my FancyBox Gallery plugin page was broken. After a little research, I discovered that a third-party javascript was the culprit. I’ve disabled that script for now, and alerted the service provider to the problem.

So, my apologies if you came to the page and got the impression that the plugin didn’t work well.

In a related note, I’ve been working (slowly) on some updates to the plugin. Hopefully I will be able to wrap up the changes by the time WordPress 3.0 is released. New features will expand the features to include the ability to use FancyBox with individual images, and an options page with options to set things like the caption placement, special effects, and timing for the image expansion and transitions.

If you aren’t already familiar with this plugin, FancyBox Gallery gives you a nice popup image browser using the attached images displayed by the WordPress [gallery] shortcode. See the plugin page linked above for a live demonstration.

Great plugin, thanks for all your work on this Dougal.

A couple of suggestions that would make fancybox even better:

    1. Change the way the title is displayed in the popup – those rounded left and right edges can sometimes go a bit funny depending on title length / browser at times

    2. I would love ability for description to also display under the image when it zooms up. For people who use lightbox-type js like fancy box instead of wordpress’s attachment page there’s no way of displaying the image description. Suggestion would be to have a bigger full-width area under the image that displayed title in bold then description underneath that.

    Thanks again.

@Steve: there will be new options for displaying the title, including some nice semi-transparent overlays.

There probably won’t be any support for the caption or description, but that’s a limitation of how the FancyBox jQuery plugin works. But I’ll keep it in mind and see if there’s anything I can do. It might be possible for me to allow you to select whether to use the image title or caption.

  5. Hi. Thanks for this great plugin. I am using it for few of my websites.
But I have a problem when using it with my blog which using WP Framework theme.
    Can you solve the problem?
Check my post and the problem in my post:

You have to use the link="file" option. If you leave that off, the gallery shortcode will link to attachment pages instead of directly to the images. Make sure your shortcode looks like: [gallery link="file"]

      • Hi, Dougal. Thanks for replying my comment.
I’m sure the shortcode in my post is [gallery link="file"].
I’m using this plugin also in my another website, with different theme. And it works fine.
But, when I switch the theme to WP Framework, this plugin will bring all gallery to attachment.

I’ve tried to remove whole code in functionsphp, then this plugin works fine (but my blog’s layout is broken. Hahaha).
So, I guess there’s conflict between some functions in WP Framework Theme and this plugin. But I’m not a coder, I don’t know how to fix this problem.

  6. Its overall nice but i agreed with the Steve’s suggestion. 😀

Hi, I found this post looking for options on Fancybox that might display the caption or description when viewing the gallery, instead of just the title.I’m putting together a site and Fancybox is brilliant but if I could dispay captions it’d really be perfect.Any progress on this?Cheers.

I know it’s been a while since I last talked about updating the plugin, but it’s often hard for me to find “spare time” for these sorts of things. I <em>do</em> still plan to update the plugin, though, and fairly soon, I hope. When I do, I’ll look back over all the suggestions, and try to incorporate as many as I can.

  8. I’m trying to add border width and color to the Fancybox gallery images. Everything I’ve tried in Plugin CSS has not worked. Can you tell me how to go about
