Blog Pingorama

I found some more fodder for my Blog Service Pinger:
I just ran across Neil’s Pinging service rundown, which in turn links to an article about pinging on UtterlyBoring.

There are a couple of ping services mentioned there that I will be adding. Things should get interesting when I create my uber-ping service

On a side note, we’re currently working on enhancements to the WordPress interface for pinging services about your blog posts.

What is the point of pinging these blog services? I mean i know they put your blog out there but the only thing I ever get from them is a ton of spam comments on my blog from bots who roam those ping sites.

Search engine visibility of course. That’s why you ping the services. They put your blog out there so that search engines can see and index you or whatever having a high search engine visibility will improve your rankings in the search engines. And sites like technoratti also brings in visitor by categorizing your blog posts and so people that surf the site that is interested in a certain topic will be more likely to find your blog.
