This new “MyDoom” virus that’s going around is pissing me off. No, I haven’t been infected — both my home and work email addresses are well protected against such things. But I *am* getting tons of messages that are warnings about incoming viruses caught by my filters. I cleaned out about 800 warnings this morning, and I’ve received about 20 or 30 more since then.
WordPress 1.0.1
I meant to post this earlier, but got busy and forgot. Yesterday, we released WordPress 1.0.1. This latest release contains some bugfixes, and is the most stable version of WordPress to date. We will now begin work on new features for version 1.1. Stay tuned!
coLinux: Linux kernel for Windows
This is way geeky cool:
Cooperative Linux is the first working free and open source method for optimally running Linux on Microsoft Windows natively. More generally, Cooperative Linux (short-named coLinux) is a port of the Linux kernel that allows it to run cooperatively alongside another operating system on a single machine. For instance, it allows one to freely run Linux on Windows 2000/XP, without using a commercial PC virtualization software such as VMware, in a way which is much more optimal than using any general purpose PC virtualization software…
The coLinux site also links to a project called ReactOS, which is an open source effort to create a Windows-compatible operating system from scratch.
Weight Goal
I lost 1.2 pounds since last Monday. Which means that I’ve caught up from the shortfall I had during my first week.
When I get time, I’ll put up a page with more details about my weight loss program (if the word “program” really applies), and I’ll try to throw some scripts together to automatically generate some stats and graphs.
The Week of Birthday
Orkut?
Google has launched a new social networking service called Orkut. I’d like to check it out, but the only way in is to be invited by someone who is already a member. Can anyone help me out?
Caution: Hardhat Area
The handful of you who have actually visited my site before will notice that I’ve finally upgraded my site. I’m now running on a 1.0+ version of WordPress. I’m using a minimally modified stock template (I added a few things to the menu area), and I’m working on some new CSS stylesheets. I still need to add back the “last visited” hack, and one day when I’ve finished the current style and created some new ones, I’ll add a style switcher.
Advanced browsers can view extra features, such as icons indicating external links.
Those of you visiting with Internet Explorer are missing out on some nifty visual baubles. You should join all the cool kids and upgrade to Mozilla, Firebird, or Opera. Advanced browsers can view extra features, such as icons indicating external links, and other graphical accents.
As I mentioned before, the current stylesheet is a work under construction, so expect things to change, and watch for falling rocks!
Changes aren’t permanent. But Change is.
I’ve been working behind the scenes for a while now, getting ready to upgrade this site to WordPress 1.0+. I haven’t had as much time to work on it as I’d like, but I think I’m going to go ahead and take the plunge anyways. One big change is going to be a new stylesheet. That’s not finished yet, either, so you’ll probably see things evolve slowly over the next couple of weeks.
The upgrades will probably start sometime tomorrow morning (Thurs, Jan 22), while I’m waiting on a lengthy software upgrade on one of the servers at work.
Weight Goal
Reached my goal of losing a pound this past week. Though, I didn’t catch up on the extra 0.2 pounds from the previous week. I blame it on all the salty tortilla chips I ate last night. I’m probably retaining an extra few ounces of water 🙂
We are Borg
<Suze> Eek! My brain has now accustomed itself to CSS, and I can’t figure out how to make my form look decent without creating a style sheet!
<Suze> I’m not really worrying about the style right now, but I’ve got it in the back of my head of how to make it look good.
<dougal> 🙂
<dougal> You have been assimilated!
