Earlier today, I released Easy Gravatars version 1.2. The only change (besides confirming that works in WordPress 2.5, currently in beta, due out next week) is that when installed under WordPress 2.5 or newer, it will use the new core get_avatar()
function to generate the image tag. And since get_avatar()
is a pluggable function, other plugins could conceivably use it to generate avatar icons from other services, and Easy Gravatars would then use the new service too.
If that doesn’t make sense to you, don’t sweat it. You can upgrade and it will work fine (on both older versions of WP and the upcoming version 2.5). Or you can keep the previous version, and it will continue to work fine, too. The only way things would work any different is if you are running WordPress 2.5 (or later, one day), and if you had an additional plugin which defined a new get_avatar()
function.

Since it came up recently on the Hackers list:
How do you check for WP version? Or are you just checking for the existence of the get_avatar() function?
Cool
Stephen: I’m checking for the existence of
get_avatar()
, not looking at the actual WP version.I am disappointed because the previous version worked fine, but after the upgrade the gravatars don’t appear any more. I reverted to the older version but they still do not appear. I didn’t change my email. I want my gravatars in the comments back…

Cool. The only thing I don’t care for is that it appears that the get_avatars function returns the <img> tag rather than just the URL. The result is that I can no longer add the border around the image without much hackery.
In any event, I’ve added my changes to this version like I have in previous versions. Dougal, it would be cool if you could pick up at least some of these. You can check out my changes here.
Thanks,
David
Same as Tanya, not working since the upgrade. The default image shows for all users, including me.
Phew, I am not the only one who is having this problem, thought it was something I had done. As above, only my default image shows for all my avatars.
The problem seems to be the “rating” QueryString parameter. If set to X, it won’t display avatars. For some odd reason. π
Err, scratch that and make it “if set” period (no matter what it’s set to).
Okay, all you folks who were having problems, I’ve looked at your sites, and the avatars appear to be working okay. Did it clear itself up? Maybe a glitch in the Gravatar service itself?
Cloink: I don’t know what’s up with those comment dates… Must be a bug in the beta code I’m running here.
Dougal, it’s working now, so it must have been a Gravatar problem. Thanks for the plugin.

sorry, just need to test something
Dougal,
Quick question here:
I’m not getting the assigned avatar to show up for my replies to comments when I’m logged in. When logged in, my assigned email is wordpress(at)”my-domain”.net and I have assigned an avatar to that email address at Gravatar yet it does not show up in my reply. Replies I make when logged shows the avatar to my logged out email address no problem( as it should here). Am I missing something here about “logged in” Gravatars?
Thx, plugin works fine!! One question though: Because of the link to the comment-author, It shows a border around the gravatar (check http://tinyurl.com/2dr85o). border=”0″ in your options page doesn’t work! Any tips???
Just upgraded to WP2.5 – I see double gravatars in my comments and I haven’t been drinking yet…
For the time being I disable this plugin, like some others until fully compatible with todays release.
BOK: The included Default (Kubrick) and Classic themes have been updated in WP 2.5 to display gravatars. You’ll only need Easy Gravatars if your theme does not already support them.
Heh. You know Doug… for the D Potters of the world maybe you should make your plugin pluggable. Add a do_action() just before it returns the HTML…. π

Works great π
I like the easy css setup!
I’ve been using this for months and it’s been perfect, except now instead of showing my Gravatar (as the Admin of the site) it loads up the default Gravatar, as if I didn’t have one registered. I’ve cleared the cache and deactivated plug-ins, still no. I did update a few plugins, but deactivating them doesn’t seem to change anything. Is there a way I can force it to display my Gravatar?
The only other odd thing I can think of that happened was I used the comment form while I was not logged in as an Admin, but filled in the fields with the same name and email address. Have no idea if that could have messed things up.
Well, it seems to have fixed itself.
I even used a computer I’d never used before and it was still showing the default (no registered gravatar) image instead of my registered one when browsing my site yesterday. Not sure what the problem was since the registered gravatar was showing on other people’s sites, just not mine for a couple of days.
Guess it was just a hiccup somewhere along the chain.
Sir, I know you deleted my comment because using keyword. No I change it π
My question still, what plugins do you use for us to edit comment after post a comment on your blog
Regard,
Dewaji
Today I noticed that my WordPress Gravatars appeared in my paged comments as well as my easy gravatars, now when I turn off my wordpress gravatar setting my easy gravatar also disappears, I like the easy gravatar as it is floated right and is a better size. any idea how I can disable the wordpress gravatar without losing my right aligned easy gravatar…. I swear wordpress does on the fly changes…
I am using cutline as my theme for wp 2.5 and no avatars? any ideas.
