A company called Foveon, Inc. has developed a new imaging sensor which should radically improve the quality of images from devices such as digital cameras. Standard sensors have separate sensors for the red, green, and blue pixels, and the devices that incorporate these sensors must do complicated post-processing of the captured data to render the final image that we download. NASA has some of the most detailed full-color pictures of the earth ever released. The site was bogged down today (probably due to millions of people downloading multi-megabyte image files), but it really was worth the wait. Check out the Big Blue Marble exhibit.
Wow. About 143 million people, which is over half of the U.S. population, are using the Internet. New users are coming online at a rate of 2 million per month. When you zoom in to look at the stats for kids between the ages of 5 and 17, about 90 percent of them are wired. [via Slashdot]
Sorry for the lack of updates recently. I’ve been staying pretty busy at work. I’ve seen several links that I’d normally add here, but I just haven’t been able to spare the time. There is one new thing, though. Last weekend I finally got around to getting the webcam hooked back up.
If you’ve tried to use the permalinks, comments, or haggis points since the upgrade, you probably noticed that they didn’t work. Sorry about that. I’ve fixed it, and have even updated the CVS version of MyPHPblog (I’m a developer on that project).
