IIS5: A call for help

Is there anybody out there who is familiar with using CGI’s implemented as DLLs under IIS? We have some programs on our IIS4 server that I am trying to migrate to an IIS5 Server (Windows 2000). But when I try to use them, I get errors. One of them returns a HTTP 405 error (which IIS shows as “Resource not allowed”, but the standard for a 405 is “Method not allowed”). The other one just says “A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.” There is nothing in the Event Log related to either of these errors. ๐Ÿ˜•

There are other utility DLLs used by these programs. I’ve installed those under the System32 directory and given the IUSR and IWAM accounts Read and Execute permissions on them. I’ve also made sure that the web directories holding the programs have “Scripts and Executables” permissions in the IIS MMC.

What could I be missing, or how can I find out more details about the errors? Is there some way that I can do some sort of trace on the DLLs being executed by IIS to see what’s really causing the problem? Maybe something akin to strace on Linux or ptrace on FreeBSD?

Super Bowl Ads

If you’re anything like me, then you didn’t give a flying flip about the Super Bowl. I was mildly interested in the commercials, but I knew that I’d be able to see them on the internet, eventually. (thanks for the link, Suze!)

Weight Goal

After a particularly stressful time last week (including our son being in the hospital for 30 hours), I lost zero weight. ๐Ÿ˜• I think things might calm down again now. Back to eating soup for lunch…

Weight Goal

I somehow managed to stay on track over my birthday weekend, and I’ve lost 1.1 pounds since last Monday. Yay me ๐Ÿ˜€

Drippy Haybath!

“You say it’s your birthday? It’s my birthday, too!”

Happy Birthday to me! When I was two years old, I sat in front of the television as man took his first steps on the moon. I’ll leave the math to you.

When I was in college, our friend Martin took a “Happy Birthday” banner made of colorful cardboard letters, and rearranged it to read “Drippy Haybath”. Ever since then, it has been the tradition of my college friends to wish each other a Drippy Haybath. This is the kind of undying tradition that can only be born of beer and boredom. Well, except that Martin was a teetotaler. So he didn’t have any beer.

Awwww, thanks everybody ๐Ÿ™‚

Sushi @ Kyoto

Last night I went with my coworkerJason to Kyoto Sushi, which recently opened up in Dothan. The atmosphere is very nice, with beautiful wood beams, sushi bar, and wall decorations. We each ordered a variety of sushi, some miso soup, and I ordered some gyoza (pan-fried pork dumplings), which we shared.

Jason had spicy tuna roll, ebi tem roll (shrimp tempura), and some salmon nigiri (rice with fish on top). I had the super crunch roll (steamed shrimp, cucumber, and tempura bits, with tuna and salmon sashimi on top), Miami roll (fried red snapper, avacado, and roe), and some unagi (eel) nigiri.

Everything was excellent. The rolls weren’t rolled quite as tight as most I’ve had before, but they held together just fine. The spicy tuna was hot enough to clear your sinuses, but not so hot that you didn’t want to eat it. The tuna and salmon on the super crunch roll was velvet-smooth, a great creamy texture, and the unagi had a just the right amount of fishy taste to it.

I’m anxious to go back sometime and try some of their other food. In addition to sushi, they serve tempura, teriyaki, and several other types of entrées.

If you are in southeast Alabama, and want some sushi, this is the place to go.

Crash!

This server was down for about 40 minutes today, due to a power failure at my hosting location. The power failure was caused, ironically enough, by a guy who was doing maintenance on the UPS systems. ๐Ÿ˜•
